I create sculptural spaces in which people or children recharge and unwind. The aim of the spaces is to provide surroundings that promote peace, calm, tranquillity and personal focus in a creative setting. Some of the designs include pod like seating within wall spaces or suspended forms that essentially reduces stimulus by creating intimate enclosed spaces. Each space is site specific and is based upon theme that emerge from workshops with staff/students or the client. All materials are highly durable and fire retardant. Recessed dimmer lighting is incorporated within the spaces with spot reading lighting where required. The Spaces can be transformed from small areas creating individual spaces or larger whole group relaxation areas.
Recently completed. Nest Space
Fiona Murphy has completed “An Nead” which is a nest-like relaxation space for students in our school. It is part of an overall commission and collaborative work with students that has resulted in a beautiful restful area that reflects upon nature with organic forms and sculptural egg-like seats set in the wall. The project is site specific and is based upon children's drawings of a birds nest in the adjacent school courtyard. The commission includes upholstery lighting, wall finishes and flooring”.
